Talking #water in Hsinchu: the biggest reservoir and cleanest stream here in the mid-north of #Taiwan is connected with the Science Park. It serves the #semiconductor industry. A bit is for agriculture. The dirtier river, where the chemicals of this industry are discharged, is for drinking. 🤷

✅ entering #TSMC headquarters. We got a green #semiconductor manufacturing tour through fabs. Sustainability as a roadshow. Then we visited a village that had been kindly asked to relocate for a new 2 nm fab. Cutting edges. The temple and local god had to move, too – better get the deity’s approval

Migrant workers in #Taiwan are mostly from Southeast Asia, the #semiconductor industry esp. pulls from the #Philippines. Entire neighborhoods cater to #SEA folks. Here’s a poster from a dormitory. It warns of illegal work outside the factory. There’s reduced capacity to send back money to families
